Finding an Internship

How can you find what internship is right for you? Well, we’re here to help! Here are our online resources and links to point you in the right direction – but don’t worry if you don’t immediately find something that you love. Our Program Coordinator is always here to help with your internship process. Take a look!

DC Internship Hotpage: Visit our one-stop shop for internship opportunities! Here, you’ll find a categorized list of information about internships that DC has to offer.

UC San Diego's Career Center Washington, DC: Access UCSD’s internship listing site. It is divided by discipline/research areas for easy access, similar to the UC Riverside Internship Hotpage.

www.idealist.org: This website is great! It has a wealth of information from all types of organizations (mainly non-profits) and it is updated daily. You should search for opportunities in DC, but you can also search for listings in Maryland (MD) and Virginia (VA). These are big states, so look only in the following areas which are accessible via metro:

  • Washington, DC
  • Maryland (MD) - Bethesda or Silver Springs
  • Virginia (VA) - Arlington or Alexandria

www.internmatch.com: Enter the type of internship you are looking for and put Washington, DC as the location. Internships are categorized and labeled by time frame, whether it is paid or unpaid and the location of the site.

www.majoredin.com: Enter your major and Washington, DC as the location. Click on advanced search and choose Internships, and browse opportunities within your field of study.

www.craigslist.com: Click on the link for Washington, DC under “US Cities.” Once there, type in "internship" in the search engine. These listings are also updated daily with new information. These postings include opportunities for the greater Washington, DC metropolitan area, so please be sure to check the location of the organization.

www.hillzoo.com: If you are interested in an internship on Capitol Hill, this site has postings from different Congressional offices.

Washington Post Jobs: The Washington Post uses Twitter to post all sorts of internships.

www.internships.com: Create an account to access the listings (make sure you choose the free option). There are often listings for Washington, DC and surrounding areas. This site is a clearinghouse for applications and they do not give you direct contact with internship sites.

Think Tanks: For research-based internships, download this document with a list of potential intern sites.

United Nations Agencies in Washington, DC: Internship information for UN Agencies.

Previous Participants: See where other students have interned!

High Profile Internships: These internships tend to have earlier deadlines than the UCDC application deadline. Some examples are below:

White House Internship Program
FBI (Summer Volunteer Program deadline: typically Oct 1 of previous year)
Department of State
